I live near an elementary school and often stop at the crosswalk while the kids cross the street. Sometimes it is an entire class that will cross to access the sports fields.

Not a single towhead in a class of 40 to be seen. Including the teachers. All of the legal citizens and naturalized immigrants send their kids to the private Catholic and Lutheran schools nearby.

Odd you should mention towheads -— I was thinking the very same thing earlier this week. When I was growing up, there were always some blonds in my class; I was one of them until about high school. Lately I’ve been struck by how seldom I see blonds these days. It’s all indistinguishable black and brown kids. (I live in Chicago, where over 90% of public school students are black or Hispanic.)
