Twisted.

Taxation destroys. Therefore more taxation is better.
Not!

Does not follow. That is the powerful desire for a free lunch.

Many alcoholics get better NOT by medicine or AA, but because they eventually grow out of the disease.
Victims of alcoholics can simply work, buy insurance to protect themselves.

Taxing cigarettes and alcohol destroys people, but makes do-gooders like yourself feel good about it. It robs help from victims, and makes you feel good about hurting others.

And that hurts children. I can never understand how folks can want to hurt children.

Simple-minded...

Call it taxation if you wish, but, charging more for a product that harms people might be the only way to have people pay for their bad habits.

Heroin and marijuana users, should be charged more upon the purchase of those "products". Those "products" are very costly, not only upon purchase, but upon victimization and treatments. So, why not have those people pay "up front" for the medical insurance for treatments that will be demanded down the road?

Don't call them "taxes". Call them: additional medical insurance premiums, because, those people will be demanding care and treatments when they become "victims" of their own bad decisions. Most people don't incur expenses from drugs or alcoholic drinks, but they do end up paying for other people's bad decisions, through higher doctor and hospital bills, and through higher medical insurance premiums, and through governments picking up the tab upon services rendered.

People are being taxed, in a way, when they purchase automobile insurance. It's not called a tax, but it might as well be. We might not be paying those premiums to a government, but we're still being charged for use of vehicles that can cause us and others harm. The difference between "bad habits" and authorized use of vehicles, is not that different when it comes to us having to pay for potential damage down the road.

Taxes, insurance premiums, service fees... they're all basically the same, except for who collects them.
