I am surprised that Trump tower’s telephone cable vault wasn’t locked up tight any outside taps would require cooperation of the telephone suppliers....however cell phones are open using available equipment....

No phone is out of the reach of the NSA. All phone traffic can be intercepted, unless the line is completely isolated from the phone network and guarded. The only way around the NSA is to use some form of high-level encryption that they cannot decode.

This is why I considered Snowden a hero of sorts - he uncovered that the government does spy on its own citizens.
