Ain't nobody got time for that swamp bs.
DC types do not understand that’s the way business works.
If you screw up and tell the boss the truth, 99 times out of 100, he or she will ream you a new ass, put the fear of God in you, then they tell everyone else it was their fault because they had missed that segment of your training or didn’t give you clear instructions, etc.
#1, You never make that mistake again,
#2, You would walk through Hell’s fires for that boss.
Decades ago, as very-junior-partner, I missed a filing the judge had specifically imposed on our side. He thought I was a wise ass and he was going to crucify me before the Bar.....
I fessed up the whole thing to my supervising Partner, a VERY old-school litigator.
My supervising partner reamed me very, very “skillfully”, then called his friend who was a former law school professor of the judge.... I got another PRIVATE, very “skilled” reaming from the judge... and it ended there.
As “penance”, no one knew, but I had to hand wash and hand wax my supervising Partner’s car, and his wife’s car, and his kids’ cars.... every month.... through a very hot DC Summer.
Lesson learned... every month.
