I had no idea they would fire out of battery. With higher pressure ammo these deficiencies become more problematic. Sounds like you were very lucky.
While using the original barrel I have had brass completely separate just above the case head. Didn’t do any damage and I don’t know if it had to do with the lack of chamber support.
I bought a mod 22 when we lived in MN. The first box of shells saw two empty cases jam while coming out.
The St. Paul store’s gunsmith polished the enterior, removed a small burr and while he had it, I asked for trijicon sights to be installed.
The St. Paul PD had similar problems and I believe they turned in all the Clocks they had ordered...
No problems since.
I’m glad that the shooter was not too terribly injured.
I thank him for giving me another reason to retain my nice little all-steel .38 Special snubnose revolver.
Looks to me he had a after market barrel see how it sticks out the end of the slide before the shot.
Glock problem or after market barrel problem
If I may ask, what is considered a “new” Glock? I purchased a Gen4 41 45 cal. three years ago, but have not fired it enough to flush out this problem.
Look at how much brass is exposed at the feed ramp.
If it looks like the one on the left, you're good to go. If it looks like the one on the right, you're still OK as long as you don't shoot maximum (or over maximum) pressure rounds, and don't reload used brass.
You can also look at your fired brass and see if the cases have the "Glock Smile."
Crap! I have the unsupported. I wonder if Glock will replace.
Do you reload?
Do you shoot Underwood or Double Tap ammunition?
Does your spent brass have a very pronounced “Glock Smile?” (Most will have a little smile, so be discerning when examining the brass.)
If you answered no to all three, you’re fine. I am not an expert in Glock lineage, but I doubt that you truly have one of the “unsupported’ barrels if yours is a Gen 4 pistol.

It’s an internet-stolen picture. Judging by the color, it’s probably a Lone Wolf aftermarket barrel.
I should be fine, since I do not reload pistol ammo, or use +P ammo. Now, I need to check for the smile by firing a few rounds. However, I never want to wonder about this, and get the supported barrel. Yes, I’ll call as well. You’ve been a big help! Thanks much, FRiend!
