Nikki Haley on Wednesday became the latest Donald Trump Cabinet nominee to break with him on how to deal with Russia to a degree, anyway.
The South Carolina governor told senators reviewing her nomination for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations that the United States must push back against Russia's attempts to flex its muscles in places such as Ukraine and Syria, as well as its alleged interference in the U.S. election process.
Russia was one of several areas with which the governor put daylight between herself and the president-elect on Wednesday at one point, she indirectly chided Trump for speaking dismissively of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
On Russia, Haley said, I dont think that we can trust them.

Once all of the funding is pulled and the U.S. bids the U.N. a not-so-fond farewell, her position will be moot.
Eastern Ukraine doesn’t want to become part of Russia, Russification leads to poverty. They actually live fairly well there.
Yada Yada Yada....
We’ll never know. Putin intends to make sure that the people of Ukraine have no voice, none, in their future. Putin’s party, the one he volunteered to serve as a communist KGB man, starved many millions of them, the Holodomodor(of no interest to Putin’s fans). He violated a treatt with that country and bit off a hunk of Ukraine - Crimea. He financed and continues to fund, supply, and resource a war against that peaceful Christian country leading to 1.7 million displaced Ukranians, which strangely only leads to chants of Nazis among his fans on this site. It’s an undeclared war supported by his fan club. Putin intends to smash that country, like the communist leaders he’s stated he admires and whom he served.
My take is this: Trump is using his cabinet, in Almost every position as his bargaining chip. He puts forward the hard right positions, gives them power then steps in and saves the day. I have seen lots of shifts by a lot of people. Most of them are almost begging Trump to step in...How do you see it?
She doesn’t set policy, Trump does.
It was brought out some time ago, appointing Haley to this position allows a big Trump supporter to come in as Governor.
As far as the Confederate flag goes, that’s the doing of Democrats. They should deal with it.
One can argue the flag issue all day, but Haley has been an excellent governor if you are a conservative. On tax issues she has been great. She has fought the converted Dem rinos in the SC house who have been lining their pockets at taxpayer expense. She finally got ethics reform passed to put some sunlight on the shady deals. Her husband served in Iraq and came home a few months ago. Great family
That is my take as well.
She was a poor choice but taking her out of SC was a strategic move.
John Bolton = CFR necon
He served the wrong people for way too long and is responsible for what got us here
yes, leftist terms but they are correct!
No wonder Trump didn’t select him
If I had, I would have selected MS “Reset Button” Hillary with her Russian mafia ....errr...business... connected eminently blackmailable SoS prick John Podesta
Say, in 2009 when the democrats want to reset the button and get more cozy with Russia, and in 2012 when Bronco Bama wanted to get more flexible with Medvedev, why was that a good thing?
Trump wants realpolitik diplomacy instead of war and he’s a Russian puppet and threat to the world?
Sorry Barky, sell it down the street, not buying here
You’d make more sense if you could write. Try to avoid running on and running it all together. Maybe a reader could understand what your point is.
Doesn’t matter. Trump is the policy setter. As long as she carries it out
Haley just stuck up for Israel too.
And Trump criticized Syrian intervention by Russia, saying they caused a humanitarian crisis.

Read Trump’s words themselves, so all supporting the impoverished Russian state, possibly being Islamic one day, might be taken aback.
If true, President Trump needs to withdraw her nomination immediately.
You may have posted your comment to the wrong post.
Her nuanced foreign policy worldview is perfect for the U.N.
Trump likely doesn’t believe we should even fund nor give the globalist organization that is the U.N. any relevance at all, but he must deal the cards he’s been dealt. The U.N. isn’t going anywhere overnight and it’s only fitting someone with Nikki’s perspective serve. Both Trump and Haley are at the very least robustly pro-America and pro-Israel.
I will break from other posters here and say that I am a huge admirer of Haley’s regardless and the conservative South Carolinians I know approve highly of the job she has done for the state.
