Nikki Haley on Wednesday became the latest Donald Trump Cabinet nominee to break with him on how to deal with Russia — to a degree, anyway.
The South Carolina governor told senators reviewing her nomination for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations that the United States must push back against Russia's attempts to flex its muscles in places such as Ukraine and Syria, as well as its alleged interference in the U.S. election process.
Russia was one of several areas with which the governor put daylight between herself and the president-elect on Wednesday — at one point, she indirectly chided Trump for speaking dismissively of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
On Russia, Haley said, “I don’t think that we can trust them.”

IMHO, Ukraine should be split, with Western Ukraine free to do whatever it wants, i.e., join the EU/NATO. I see that as the best long-term solution. From what I understand, Putin really doesn’t care about the Western part of the Country, it’s more the areas primarily inhabited by Russians in the East.
Why he picked her, is beyond me and he might as well have just picked John, I WAS IN NAM, Kerry for the post at the UN.

She was VERY anti-Trump, from the get-go and I was appalled when he picked her. This is NOT a good choice for ANY position in a Trump administration.

I think he also sees the eastern part of Ukraine as a bulwark against Islam, too. He doesn’t mind Islamic client states, but he doesn’t want it in his own back yard.

No, she is a FOLLOWER, she will do what she is told. That’s why she took down the Confederate flag. The flag was not flying at the statehouse, it was flying over the confederate memorial there. The black pastor that was killed in Charleston had voted to put the flag at the cemetery rather than on the statehouse. But that didn’t matter to her. The left yelled, she obeyed. A follower, not a leader.
John Bolton is available, and he HAS had experience in the UN and confronting Russia.
Also appears to be pretty favorable in the eyes of those of whom are watching the actions of the Trump Administration.
And what better place to test her out, than the UN which we are going to defund, and which will probably fold soon after we quit funding it?

One has to read Trump’s exact words, he has been critical of Russia as well; saying they helped cause a “humanitarian disaster”.

I think all info out there indicates even the Russians in Eastern Ukraine do not care to be a part of Russia.
As they say, Crimea use to be a part of Turkey as well; so?
And what if folks in Western Ukraine are happy to be part of NATO and this is the best way to do it? It’s called a “Win-Win”.
