The current White House Press Room was previously an indoor swimming pool that was covered up to give the press someplace to operate from. It is very small and seat assignments are very coveted. The Conference Room in the Executive Office Building has plenty of room for the news people to gather for their daily briefings and gaggles.
No assigned seats then. Let them scramble for a chair!
