Give me the mechanicals (even with microprossessor controls) and let me put my own electronics in (if ever required).
I think the CAFE standards will be repealed long before 2025.
I want a vehicle that will go off-road, have a big V8, and hold a lot of people and gear. My ‘75 Jeep has 500 horsepower, but doesn’t hold many people or much gear, but is sure fun.
More craptastic stuff. Last light vehicle I bought was a 1984 (carburetor) a year ago. I’ll never buy another new vehicle. Detroit, etc. can GFT.
What exactly is driving emissions standards these days? Is it air quality or are we doing it just to do it? The auto makers have drastically cut emissions over the years. I wonder if we might be getting to the point of diminishing returns. It might make sense to evaluate whether resources would be better put into other areas like safety or fuel economy or performance. Hopefully someone’s keeping an eye on that sort of thing.

Still no flying car.
Great. So the idiot @$$holes in front of me who can barely drive as it is will now have even more distractions to make them even worse drivers. I can hardly wait.

Moore is not paying attention.
Demand is for larger, more solidly built vehicles.
Plastic cars, bubble cars, blister cars, all fallen out of favor.
Most people that have owned a turbocharged small engine vehicle for over two years will never buy another one.
If they were lucky, the turbo blew while still on warranty, but the likelihood of a turbo lasting passed 150,000 are very low.

Trump needs to get rid of this.
IMPORTATION OF JAPANESE, KOREAN, AND GERMAN DIESEL ENGINES IN CARS, SUVs, AND SMALL TRUCKS FFS!!!
I see a divergence coming, with new vehicles being increasingly sophisticated all the way down to basic economy cars, relying upon ever lighter materials plus more and more electronics.
In-wheel “hub” electric motors combined with better and smaller battery packs that can be charged more quickly will lead to wider adoption of full electric vehicles, which will take advantage of the packaging flexibility that hub motors provide. See the overshadowed Nikola ATV for an example, street legal, all wheel drive, bizarrely fast.
Then there will be the growing retrofit market, fueled by people who just don’t like all the plastic, the increasingly alien looking styling, they’ll want real, solid vehicles but with all the modern safety and convenience features.
It’s going to lead to the preservation of a lot of vehicles that otherwise would be crushed and hence “remanufactured” cars and trucks will be regarded as “green.” It’ll be controversial though, since the changes will be pretty pervasive and many “classics” will fall to this remanufacturing,
