From what I’ve read this device is alleged to allow achieving velocities of hundreds if not thousands of miles a second. You are not going to be able to have a solar system teeming with vehicles at those velocities unless those vehicles have autodestruct mechanisms that turn them into a cloud of gas if they get within X million miles of inhabited structures or planets.

Forget EM drive. We're going to need ET drive to really get around the galaxy quickly and safely.

I said the net momentum is zero. They cancel each other out. If you throw a baseball, you are also pushed back slightly in the opposite direction. You’ve been given the exact opposite momentum that the baseball has been given. The baseball still has momentum, but borrowed from you.

"You sound like a Y2K bug conspiracy theorist and climate alarmist rolled into one."

I don't know who's post you're reading, but I don't recall mentioning global warming. Exactly as in this case, however, I will need evidence before I buy into it. So far there is little or none. I lead a Y2K project at the time as a programmer, by the way. The danger was real but we fixed it before it became a problem. So many misjudge what really happened, which is frustrating because I don't think I've ever worked so much overtime or got so little sleep as then.

If I seem overly skeptical, that's what science is about. Faith is for religion and politics, and I know how to deal with them separately.

Yes, I wouldn’t go sinking money into this yet. There is a 99% or higher probability it is not going to pan out.

But on the other hand, so many “scientists” are utterly dismissive of anything that conflicts with current understanding and they rule academia in the US. Even noting observations that could potentially challenge the orthodoxy will get you blacklisted from ever publishing or being hired as a researcher.

I have witnessed “preposterous” theories in medicine eventually proven true. Those researchers had to step up with a large amount of evidence and dubious researchers had to confirm that evidence before the new theories were accepted.

During the same time other preposterous theories didn’t pan out. It is very difficult to tell from the outside who is the genius is. I would love to see the solar system opened up and hope this is genius, not crackpottery.

I think the simple version is that if you have energy, you have mass to fling behind you.

I also know that you can't mix matter and anti-matter cold captain!

You appear to be taking into account only Newton’s third law, which believe it or not does not constitute the entirety of the laws of physics, which in this case applies the Theory of Special Relativity.

http://emdrive.com/principle.html Apparently your use of the term “Everyone” doesn’t take into account the design team actually building the thing.

There is a reaction that takes place in this device due to radiation pressure, which comes from the photons produced by a magnetron.

"gyroscopes" - you know that and I know that...but I like to bait any "perpetual motion" sorts.

call it a scientist's hobby...
