Why was Ivanka Trump flying on JetBlue?
That is a question on everyones mind today, a day after the daughter of President-elect Donald Trump was involved in an incident aboard a flight on the low-cost airline from JFK International Airport in New York City.
A fellow passenger, whom some media sites identified as Dan Goldstein of Brooklyn, N.Y., was accused of harassing her by saying Your father is ruining the country. Goldstein and his husband, identified as Hunter College Professor Matthew Lasner, were removed from the flight and offered a later flight.
But Goldstein also reportedly wanted to know why Trump was on a commercial flight and not a private or charter jet.
Fair question.
While Ivanka could have flown on one of her fathers Trump planes, it does cost the president-elect thousands of dollars to run them.
Donald Trump has two jet planes: a Boeing 757, often called Trump Force One, and a smaller jet, Cessna Citation X, The New York Times reports.
To run the smaller jet would cost about $3,200 an hour and the Boeing 757 about $8,000 to $12,000 an hour, according to Conklin & de Decker, an aviation reference company.
Thats a lot of money to fly only a family of five: Ivanka, her husband Jared Kushner and their three children.
JetBlue said the passenger was removed from a San Francisco-bound flight, as Ivanka planned to travel to Hawaii for the holidays. But a few media reports suggests that the flight was headed to Palm Beach International Airport, 3 miles west of Mar-a-Lago, the president-elects Palm Beach mansion where he is spending the Christmas holidays.
A JetBlue flight from New York to West Palm Beach is only about two and one-half hours. To have the president-elects daughter traveling on a commercial flight for more than three hours could be a security risk.
According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, 1.3 percent of JetBlues traffic is from PBIA to JFK, which is around 300,000 passengers a year. The airline alone flies about 23 million passengers a year.
Also, one out of every 15 passengers at PBIA are traveling on a JetBlue flight to JFK, which suggests JetBlue is a popular choice for those flying to and from the New York area.
And who doesnt like flying JetBlue with all its perks? Such as personal TVs, free snacks and drinks, and comfy, spacious seats. The pricing is also less expensive than other airlines, with a round-trip flight from JFK to PBIA starting at about $250.
A spokeswoman for the Trump family would not comment on the incident, but did not deny what took place, according to The Associated Press.
"...for more than three hours..."? Why? Does that give a terrorist enough time to move a mobile SAM battery into place, or to launch one of their Mach 2.2 interceptors to shoot down the plane?
The risky times are driving to the airport, transiting the airport, dubious baggage handling security, taxi & take-off. Then the reverse at the destination. Time spend at 35,000 feet is the secure part of the trip, whether it be for 2 hours or ten.
Simple answer is that it was a short haul flight and not worth the trouble of booking one’s own plane for such a short trip.
Goldstein and his “so-called” husband.
I will NEVER accept homosexual “so-called” marriage.
I don’t know about the set up idea. I have a hard time understanding how they would have known ahead of time that Ivanka and her family would be on that flight.
Goldstien must be the wife?
+1
Sounds like this wannaBe Bully should have his ASS kicked.Where do I send a resume to Trump for a personnal attache job?
Private planes are great if you’re flying to several places and need scheduling flexibility. There’s not much point for a NYC-SF trip, because there are lots of daily flights.
One of those guys had posted on twitter - since deleted, apparently - that they were looking to harass her. They were stalking her. Easy enough to quickly book a flight for an opportunity to do so. If he'd been smarter he would have waited until they were in the air and gotten more bang for his buck. I wonder if they ever took that later flight or if it was all just part of their attack, even using the child as a prop...
She went to Hawaii on a private jet after JetBlue landed.
She wanted to experience how the ‘little people’ live instead of flying on her dad’s luxurious Boeing 737? ;-)
Thanks. :-)
JFK-SFO is short haul?
He doesn’t own a 737. He has a 757 and another smaller business jet.
He has a 757 not a puny 737.
As long as he wasn’t paying for her ticket, it is none of the queer’s business why she was flying commericial .
His’ do not have husbands. His’ have wives.
I don’t know the routes, but my understanding was that it was a flight no more than a couple of hours in length. If that makes it mid-haul, that’s fine. I can be corrected on that.
Ivanka = new Rosa Parks
