This is the reason why. Once they establish as a matter of law, the ability of electors to ignore states wishes, that makes the electors subject to bribery and blackmail.

and they would be correct.

Pick your electors at your peril.

Any laws seeking to mandate who they vote for would not be Constitutional.

It is, after all, an electoral body.
