I've noticed a lot of commercials about Hep C. The current one tells Baby Boomers to get tested and an earlier one was talking about a cure for Hep C. This is starting to sound like some government conspiracy. And, I'm not a doctor but I didn't think that a virus could be cured.

big pharma creating a crisis so they can rake in the money....
its sickening....
the treatment cost will make slaves of our dear children and grandchildren because its prohibitive in cost....
most people who have Hep c don’t even know it or have symptoms....
imagine a million people opting to get an $80,000 "cure"..or 10 million...
so it was the taxpayers who paid for it....
Still much cheaper than a liver transplant.
...
Much less risk, no surgical recovery, and a better quality of life, too with no anti-rejection drugs.
I know homosexuals spread lots of hepatitis. I think 24% of them have it. I assume this has something to do with the commercials.
Yup. And someday (maybe SOON - the high priced cost of drug sold in the US, but are cheaper elsewhere might be deemed improper....and the US laws that (illegally, IMHO) prevent re-importation of the drugs might be removed, giving people in the US a better price. (If the drug comp
This is from a Karl Denninger column:
“What if you knew that Sovaldi, the cure for Hepatitis C that costs nearly $90,000 for a course of treatment in the United States has a cost of approximately $1,000 in India and Bangladesh? It does.
What if you knew that if you went to either Mexico or Bangladesh and bought 100 courses of treatment of either drug and brought it back into the United States to sell at a 100% mark-up, an act that (if replicated) would not only make you a nice profit but also instantly force down the price in the United States down to something reasonable, you would have your lawfully-purchased courses of treatment confiscated and you would almost-certainly be charged with a crime and imprisoned? That’s exactly what would happen.”

Guess I was lucky: When my doc told me I could try a second round of peg-interferon because the first round ‘almost’ worked, I said yes, went home, told my wife, and locked myself in the bathroom and wept. Luckily the second round worked, but cost me my job, because I could no longer do it after the second round. Took about 6 months for all the side effects to clear. My sympathies.
Me too! He didn’t know he had it until he was in his 50s. Think he got it when he was a kid.
It is a millenial disease because it is transmitted by pedophiles. My pediatrician was against the HepC vaccine because he said it was a mean to hide acts of sexual exploitation or to hush them.
Usually virus require your own metabolism to reproduce. So a cure would be to lower it by thyroid removal.
There’s no Hep C vaccine.
I got the injections too....I thought they were anti viral.....but now I dont know WHAT they were please inform on anything you find out.
Hep C can kill you and if you have it probably will before your time. There is a cure but an expensive cure. The makers of the cure want everyone to know there is a cure.
Those with good insurance do not care as the insurance will pay most of the cost. Those without insurance will then become an advocacy group for government assistance for the cure.
It is all about money.
It was, and it’s expensive. The ad campaign is probably to sell as much as possible here at its abusive subsidize the world price before people realize they can take a vacation to India and get it for about 1/50th (not a typo) the price...
I never took IV drugs or non safe sex. I got Hep C from a blood transfusion during the Clinton years in the military.
They were getting blood from Canadian prisoners that were infected. I don’t qualify for these expensive miracle treatments.
Thank you. Many of the previous drugs were trial drugs which couldn’t be advertised to the general public. Those which were approved required a commitment to a very long and grueling regimen with only a 60%-70% chance of complete cure. Not the kind of treatment you want to advertise to the general public.
I think it was Hep C that a nurse friend contracted. She had to give up alcohol, and was given a long regimen of a $100,000 drug. She says she's cured now.
When I was 9 or 10 I had Hep. There wasn’t Hep A, B or C, Just Hep. It was cleared up with vitamin B.
