“The law is whatever a judge says it is.”

I've seen that time and time again. Also, when on the stand in a jury trial and the judge or opposing attorney won't let you answer, turn to the judge or jury and ask if they want to hear what the opposition wants or do they want to hear the truth. That usually straightens them up for a while.

Exactly. Great advice.

My friend also was fond of saying, “A lie stuck to no matter what, is as good as the truth”.

35 years as a Trooper, he saw it all.
