All Whitetail deer populations are not created equal. In the midwest, there are state owned lands where the herds have not been managed well. The deer have become so overpopulated and inbred that some of the whitetails aren’t much bigger than a Great Dane. This overpopulation has also led to increased disease in the herd.
In recent years, there have been more controlled hunts in these state owned lands which is helping.
