On Thursday evening, President-elect Donald Trump tweeted that he received a call from Ford chairman Bill Ford indicating that the automaker had chosen not to move an entire plant from Kentucky to Mexico.
As many reports rightly indicated, thats not entirely true. Ford never intended to close and move its Louisville Assembly Plant to which Trump is referring to Mexico. The plant currently employs a little more than 4,700 workers.
The Detroit-based automaker was only considering moving its Lincoln MKC production only one of the vehicles manufactured at that plant to its factory in Cuautitlan, Mexico, according to a Ford spokesperson.
As part of a four-year contract with the United Auto Workers that Ford signed in 2015, the automaker was making room to produce the new Ford Escape at its Louisville plant and expected to balance out its MKC production. But now, the company has chosen to keep its MKC production in Kentucky.
Trump wasnt wrong about his influence over that decision, however. In his tweets, he strongly suggests he had something to do with Fords move....

Not a bit tired of winning.
Trump still needs to put across the board tariffs in.
It’s not fair to Ford if the other car manufacturers continue producing overseas. You can’t expect an individual company to self sacrifice. You need to change the trade rules so companies have a reason to produce here.
Go Ford.
I have two of their products now, both of which have been much much more reliable than my previous German cars of supposedly high quality engineering. Meh.
Keep it up, and keep those jobs here.
If and when we find that we cannot support demand and there are no REAL citizens to take up the slack, then go ahead and make cars there.
No, I’m not tired a bit. I’m enjoying all of this winning.
Just remember, Trump is not president yet, he can’t do that stuff yet
But he can influence and he is doing a great job of that
Union bosses hate Trump.
Union workers love Trump.
How about the Union workers kick the living sht out of the Union bosses?
...in the parking lot.
...with wooden bats.
;)
Think the UAW guys realize that Trump just did more for them in one week than the Democratic Party has done for them in forty years?
And he’s not even in office yet.
Nobody wants a Mexican MKC.
Jawboning works.
I bought my wife a used Ford Freestyle 3-row SUV several years ago and we haven’t had even one problem with it.
Jawboning works.
It is not the trade rules. It is the regulation, the added G&A costs and in general the hostile business climate in the U.S.
Take a plant out of the country and you are instantly hit with (1) finding out how to do business there and then (2) that in a lot of areas it is infinitely easier and less costly.
For example, even putting in every single workplace safety rule and all the associated equipment is far, far less costly. You end up with a model plant at a small fraction of the cost.
Trump wins without trying.
True, my comment about what needs to do, is for after he gets into office. The rules need to be level for all American companies, not just the ones Trump jawboned.
The media is trying to make the lie that Ford never intended to move the line to Mexico stick. It’s a lie.
“Ford says Lincoln MKC production will stay in Kentucky, not move to Mexico”
DETROIT Ford Motor Co. had considered moving production of the Lincoln MKC to Mexico, but instead the compact premium crossover will remain at the Louisville Assembly Plant, the automaker confirmed Thursday night.
Ford spokeswoman Christin Baker said the Cuautitlan plant was the likely new plant for the MKC when the automakers deal with the UAW expires in 2019.
But now the automaker plans to build the next generation of the MKC in Louisville, Kelli Felker, Fords global manufacturing and labor communications manager told Automotive News late Thursday.

I think my next car will be a Ford. My Mustang served me well. Ford also never took any bailout money.
Somebody is lying their azz off in this story. Before the election, the headlines shouted that Ford was moving it’s “small car production” operations to a new factory in Mexico. Now, the story changes saying Ford was only going to move part of it? Bunch of lying bastards somewhere. GO TRUMP!!
