RUMOR: John Bolton to be Named Secretary of State
Red State ^ | 11/14/2015

Posted on 11/14/2016 1:08:16 PM PST by SeekAndFind

This is thin, but it fits into everything that is being said about filling the Secretary of State position.

Source says John Bolton is close to being named Secretary of State, Corker still a remote possibility, Gingrich is out

— Ryan Grim (@ryangrim) November 14, 2016

Bolton would be an inspired choice both in terms of the temperament needed to turn around a fat, flailing and failing State Department that is more interested in being liked by the right people than in pursuing the nation’s interests and in the message it sends.

State is a byzantine organization with its own personnel regulations and it has traditionally operated as though it was the sole adult in the room and the president, especially when the president was a Republican, was an unruly child. Bolton has caused the Iranians and North Koreans to complain about him in the past and the Democrats filibustered his appointment as UN ambassador. His nomination would be a sign that Trump is serious about foreign policy and that he’s not afraid to make enemies of the right people.

no more stupid wars in ME

I'm okay with stupid wars in ME as long as they don't spill over in to VT or NH...

First step for Sec of State: fire the top ten layers and the bottom ten layers of the whole staff. Top ten because they made this mess, and the bottom ten because they were hired by the top ten and happily did their bidding.

I certainly hope Trump has the sense to avoid having nothing but septuagenarians (or older!) in key positions.

Seems like following FR advice would get his Administration labeled ‘The Get Off My Lawn Gang’.

“Not that I necessarily believe this, but if Gingrich is out at State and as Chief of Staff then what’s left for him?”

Newt will be a tsar in charge of overseeing big changes in the federal government. Like how do you overhaul the VA to make if more efficient?

IMHO, Bolton is the best choice with his experience and disdain for all things UN!

Absolutely this^^^.

State is a snake pit. How many times did we witness entrenched State bureaucrats subtly sabotage Bush?

Bolton is a good choice.

I don't believe Trump would consider Corker.

“NOT GOOD!! NeoCon!!!!”

Oh, please! Bolton will do as he is told - and he is extremely pro-US (which is a distinct improvement over the last 2 in that position). He won’t be able to push the war option so easily with a non-neoCon sitting in the Oval Office. There will be other foreign and defense policy people helping out with the decision-making process - he won’t be Kissinger, doing it all by himself.

As for Corker: NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Let’s remember who was the co-sponsor of the surrender document in the Senate to allow Barky to shove the Iran deal up our rear ends.

Squishy, “moderate”, R Senator from TN, former mayor of Chattanooga as I recall, more $ than good sense. NOT Conservative.

So who would be a good person to complement Bolton at the UN?

Somebody like Michelle Bachmann?

Newt is 73 now, and I think has money problems. He likely needs to take the highest offer, which isn’t the less-than-$200k the SoS gets, and I doubt he wants to influence-peddle like Hillary. There’s more money and less stress being a national commentator.

Bolton despises the UN. He has said that the only justification for allowing their presence on American soil is to be able to keep an eye on them.
