This is thin, but it fits into everything that is being said about filling the Secretary of State position.
Source says John Bolton is close to being named Secretary of State, Corker still a remote possibility, Gingrich is out

Bolton would be an inspired choice both in terms of the temperament needed to turn around a fat, flailing and failing State Department that is more interested in being liked by the right people than in pursuing the nations interests and in the message it sends.
State is a byzantine organization with its own personnel regulations and it has traditionally operated as though it was the sole adult in the room and the president, especially when the president was a Republican, was an unruly child. Bolton has caused the Iranians and North Koreans to complain about him in the past and the Democrats filibustered his appointment as UN ambassador. His nomination would be a sign that Trump is serious about foreign policy and that hes not afraid to make enemies of the right people.
No...senior counsel to the president is my guess
IIRC Gingrich on Hannity said he didn’t want a cabinet position, just to be an advisor
Are you kidding? Bolton is one of the smartest guys in the entire government
Corker... not so sure
Bolton could.be very very good in this job. Someone has to clean the Nazis out of the Snake department bunker. Bolton looks like he could do
It, if anyone can.
Somewhat mixed feelings about Bolton, but generally think this is the right pick. Look, the world is on fire. We need someone who can hit the ground running. Very few people like Bolton can do this. Good pick.
If the answer is yes and he has rethought this epic disaster, than he should be welcome. But if he has not, then the answer should be not just "no", but "hell no"!
Nobody wants to be SoS, you have to fly around and kiss ass with foreign potentates all the time. Bolton could do really well there.
lol. you see the term “neocon” on FR more often than on DU these days . . . well, if DU was up, that is.
Agreed, no more neo-cons, no more stupid wars in ME.
It did not change. Bolton’s anti-UN stance would give him my vote.
It didn’t.
I think Special Advisor to the President could work for Newt.
I like you Roger..you got flair
The world is on fire, but the Bolton crew helped to light the match!
???? That reputation would be a feather in his cap for me. I have no idea if has changed or not. Somebody indicated that he hates the UN, which in my book suggests that he still is anti-communist.
Kick a$$ and take names!
. . . and nit-picky as well. I worked with a guy who was a co-pilot flying DC3s during the Vietnam War. He said he applied for a State job while over there - filled out the application and handed it in. Snotty clerk says "You don't follow directions very well, do you?". Guys asks WTF? Cleck says "The form says to 'X' the boxes and you used check marks." Guy told the clerk to stuff it and stayed with the DC3s.
And can get his point across succinctly
Agreed. I like Bolton, a lot. He is smart, Constitutionally centered, no nonsense, outspoken and courageous in the face of progressive lunacy. Libs hate him with a purple passion. Works for me.
Excellent choice indeed, if it turns out this way for Bolton.
