I love the tune and the words are great. I can’t think of a better one than what we already have.
I don’t think the words are all that great but the French have a good tune.
“Scotland The Brave” is also a good one tho I have read that it is only unofficial.

A new song was suggested about fifty years ago. They suggested the BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC with new words. My thoughts? Like a lead balloon!

What really gets me is the stupid charge that the song apparently glorifies war, as personified in an episode of “All in the Family” in which Mike Stivic shouts at Archie about this.
What simply inspired Key to write the song was his seeing the American flag still flying at Fort McHenry after being bombed the previous night by the British during the War of 1812 Battle of Baltimore.
