If I were a patriot playing in the NFL, I would also take a knee.
In the press conference, I would explain that players usually take a knee when any player on the field is injured. I would then explain that America is wounded and I am taking a knee for the injured America, divided as she is, not just for a specific group. I’d try to hijack the meaning of this insult so that nobody would know why you were kneeling, then hopefully the whole thing would just go away.
