I agree. Credit where credit is due.
I did not see their speeches, so I can’t comment on the specifics. We here know what scumbags Ryan and McConnell are . . . but the average LIV doesn’t. All they know is that they are Important Men who hold High Office. It’s possible that a few LIVs tuned in to their speeches, and their takeaway would be “Wow, these Important Men are supporting Donald Trump for President. Hmmm, maybe I should think about that . . .”
To be sure, once the cameras are turned off, Ryan and McConnell will resume their backstabbing ways. But the LIVs won’t know that. All they’ll know is that maybe, just maybe, Donald Trump isn’t so all-fired awful, if these Important Men say so.
So yes, last night, Ryan and McConnell did their little bit to help Trump get elected. Credit where credit is due.
They weren’t exactly ringing endorsements for Trump. But they were positive about the party and the mentions of Trump tied into the positive party message.
I expected those two to take digs at Trump in lots of ways that turned voters off Trump but let them weasel out of responsibility (”you misinterpreted ...” after the damage is done).
