I've been "interviewed" by the FBI and there were no recorders... I don't know about the FBI, but state and local police almost always have their interview rooms bugged. You don't see the recorders, but they are there.
That's something every citizen should be aware of.

About 12-15 years ago, I went to my local police station to discuss my next door neighbor's weird behavior.
We sat down at a table and the cop asked me to tell him what was going on. I noted he was not taking notes.
When I finished, I asked why he hadn't bothered taking notes. He said we had been videotaped and a transcript would be available in three days - for $50.
