Construction jobs and general labor jobs are dominated by immigrants in large parts of the US—certainly in California one would be hard-pressed to find a native American on a housing job site.
An education degree is like a big wall to those who lack one. Most jobs, if only the skills needed to do the job, do not require a degree. All businesses have done is download the training costs onto the people seeking employment.

Well, they used to hang out on the stoop, on the street corner and around barrels full of fire. Then they went to the welfare office. Now they don't have to do anything because their EBT cards get loaded automatically every week or two. So, indeed, it is a big mystery as to where they went. I'm stumped, yet again.
Some are now living with their aging parents and holding down McFry jobs. We have about 3-4 doing that in our neighborhood.
