Dozens of Russian 'ultras' clashed with England fans chanting 'We hate Russia' during a fresh round of violence in the centre of Lille today.

French police used pepper spray as two groups of supporters squared up in the northern French city – just hours after a separate flare-up at a bar.

Punches were thrown during the brawl in the early hours of this morning after England fans had left a nearby pub.

Russia's 'hyper violent' thugs had earlier ignored UEFA's threat to ban their country from Euro 2016 as they attacked English and Welsh supporters near the city's train station.

UEFA.com crunches the numbers after the first set of UEFA EURO 2016 group matches, with goals at a premium (at least in first halves) but crowds higher than ever.

Goals

• At 1.83 goals per game, the average is the lowest since 1968 when seven were scored in five matches for a mean of 1.40.

• If scoring continues at the current rate, despite the low average, there will be around 93 goals, ahead of the record of 85 from 2000 (in 31 rather than 51 matches).

• 16 of the 22 goals have been scored in second halves – the rate would be 2.67 goals per game if the first 45 minutes were as prolific, higher than any of the last three EUROs where the average was between 2.4 and 2.5 overall

• Three goals have been registered in second-half added time, but none after the 45th minute of any first half.

• Two of the four substitutes to score did so in the same match – Ondrej Duda of Slovakia and Hal Robson-Kanu of Wales.

• Just two of the 21 scorers so far have not got their maiden EURO goal – Bastian Schweinsteiger and Luka Modrić.

• Nani's opener against Iceland was the 600th UEFA EURO finals goal.
