The Allied invasion of Catholic countries (Italy, France) makes it ring especially hollow; those populations, when faced with a choice between fascism and communism, had elected for fascism.

As if you believe there is any difference between fascism and communism. Socialist in the name of the masses or socialist in the name of the state is the same totalitarian cesspool.
