They are actually considering Intelligence or crypto-liguistics. I think those encompass language schools (I think). Besides he already speaks 3 languages along with some Russian and German.

Yeah that is what I was thinking of...I had that offered to me as my ASVAB's were good (though not as good as your son's), I chose Avionics because I was interested in electronics...lead me to an MSEE degree. Did your boy get off the Island yet?

Congrats on your son’s performance and choices. His recruit training experience will make him a better man and those potential career area choices are highly selective. All military language training is done in CA at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. You could go visit him there and put in a round of golf at Pebble Beach, assuming you golf, of course.

His GT score definitely qualifies him for officer training but that might be tough to get without a bachelor’s degree. A friend of my son chose another route through language skills/school and intel schools to get a warrant officer appointment in the Army after some enlisted time. I don’t know if the USMC still has warrants or if there is one in that career path.
