Biggest challenge if you are not familiar with the city and plan on driving yourself will be parking. The race is sold out, so there will be crowds like haven't been seen in decades. With General Admission, there may be upwards of 350,000 attendees.

If you can get tickets on one of the many shuttle options, I'd consider it and plan on taking a long time to get back to your base camp.

Two really good stops on Main Street in Speedway are Daredevil Brewing and Big Woods Brewing. Big Woods has excellent food. There's also a little pub on Main called BBQ and Bourbon. They have great food and sell Daredevil Beer.

Definitely plan on going to the Speedway Museum. All the cars, including the Marmon Wasp, are still in running order. Pic below is Parnelli Jones driving the Marmon Wasp around the Speedway in 2011.

My partner in crime will be PO’d if we don’t do the museuem, and so will I. I was there once in 2002 and loved it. Wasn’t there for the race, though.

Thanks for the other wisdom, too! We have shuttle tickets and plan to stay till the last dog is hung.

They still do that, don’t they?

Thanks,
Jim
