“A typical person is more than five times as likely to die in an extinction event as in a car crash,” says a new report.

Extinction means everybody dies. With 7 billion people on the planet I think that's a bit more than five times the likelihood of dying in a car crash. The author is dumber than moldy goat cheese.

But multiply that by the odds of such an event. Right now the odds of dying in a car crash in the US is about 1 in 10,000 per year. For a 70 year lifespan that would be about a 0.7% chance to die in a crash. So he is stating that there is a 3.5% chance for the human race to become extinct in the next 70 years.
