Though subjected to a Borking as harsh and unfair as that experienced by any political figure in America over the past decade, Knights long record of success and a lifetime of loyalty to his friends enabled him to relocate to Lubbock, Texas, where he now coaches the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. And, just as he had at IU, Knight took a wounded basketball program and revitalized it dramatically, producing a winning season with a team that had finished at the bottom of the Big 12 Conference the year before, while filling arenas all over the country and earning an invitation to the NCAA tournament at the end of the season.

Cruz is just a poor politician.
For a good number of his players, he was the only “Father Figure” they had in their lives. And the vast majority of those kids grew up to be good, responsible adults.
How so?
He personally raised several million for the library at IU before the school screwed him.

he did the same at Tech. The man has many good qualities and many bad
I believe Knight is somewhere between the devil he's depicted as by many and the great, conservative person some make him out to be. I never much approved of his coaching methods although he obviously got results.
But his way of humiliating a number of his players was not something I approved of. John Wooden, a great conservative, didn't have to do any of that stuff to get his players to play well. And he was not known for throwing chairs on the court.
Knight was obsessed with winning, and he often let that get the better of him. Winning is nice, but treating players like they're more than just objects to move around on a basketball court is something different.
Of course you just made that one up! Cruz isn't that kind of guy. And even if he was, $500K would be peanuts in so far as Fiorina is concerned.
Not made up at all. Sorry to burst your bubble, sport...
FWIW, Knight was no worse than any other coach in the NCAA. His only mistake was being a winner year after year. The media is famous for building up any athlete or coach until they're able to tear them down.......... After all, headlines make for readership.......
Not too sure about Knight's standing in the state of Indiana. I don't think the Purdue people would be particularly fond of Knight. ( Nor the fans of just about every Big Ten opponent his teams faced.) Plus, it's been 16 years since he last coached at IU - and was fired by the university president for a repetitive pattern of boorish behavior, no matter how much he had won as a coach. Younger voters wouldn't even remember Knight.
As for Cruz's understanding of basketball, he said in his autobiography that he actually played some basketball in intermediate or high school, FWIW.
It's quite obvious that almost all major media outlets, left and even some "right," are biased toward Trump in this GOP primary process, because they know that Trump as the Republican candidate likely means a victory for The Witch in the general election.
