I think the form of autism you are referring to is Asperger’s syndrome. They tend to have problems understanding language in context and are very literal in their use of language. They often have trouble picking up on subtle forms of communication like body language, humor, and sarcasm. They do not empathize with or seems insensitive to others’ feelings and have a hard time “reading” other people or may have difficulty understanding humor. They may be prone to accidentally insulting or hurting others people because of their lack of empathy for others.
