We coming to a time of disillusionment with our country and many conservative leaders. I have listened to Rush since he first went on the air and I was a great fan of his but on occasion it occurred to me that he did not mention free trade and illegal immigration for many years. I don’t recall him talking about NAFTA. Since Rush was on the national media I believed he was controlled by THEM. One time a caller mentioned the CFR and Rush dismissed him. There were certain things that he talked about and other things he did not talk about. Now I believe that Rush was part of the conservative controlled opposition. He was allowed to talk about a number of things but he was not allowed to talk about others. The controlled opposition is something that the Soviet Union used for instance the Russian Orthodox clergy was controlled by the Soviets. This is how controlled societies operate. We are living in a controlled society but because we started out as a free society the controllers had to be very subtle in the way that they controlled our media. All controlled society use censorship and ours is not any different. We live in an oligarchy which has to control our information.
Oh, I sure do! I was firmly in the anti-NAFTA camp (letters to the editor and such). His spin was that the agreement/treaty was imperfect, a patchwork quilt of mediocre and good policy, but overall it was NECESSARY to pass the bill ... so the Mexican economy would improve, turn the tide of illegal immigration (they would have good jobs in their own country and wouldn't need ours), and *ahem* bring up the standard of living south of the border.
How'd that turn out for you Rush Windbag?
Blackmailed.
Big Money sets prominent people up in compromised positions. It starts out slow then gotcha! Pictures, video. Maybe Foreign Money told Rush to avoid foreign topics like amnesty, trade, else the photos get published.
Could be Rush is blackmailed.
You nailed it. Sad but true. Good post.
I'd noticed the same thing, and can't recall what Rush said, if anything, during W's two big amnesty pushes during 2006 and 2007. And I've heard little or nothing from Rush about TPA and TPP.
But Rush did come out in support of NAFTA and did everything he could to discredit Perot, whose opposition to NAFTA was one of his primary issues. Rush seems either to support the GOPe on immigration and trade, or has very little to say. I've concluded that Rush is and always has been GOPe on immigration and trade issues, and most all issues.
He made his name deconstructing liberalism and talking in general terms about conservatism. Have listed to him very little for several weeks now.
