Probably no one has earned more leeway from conservative voters and pundits than Rush Limbaugh. Rush has been a tireless force for the conservative movement for decades, and he probably is responsible for a whole lot of conservative Republicans who are currently in office. But thankfulness for past service only goes so far, and Rushs program yesterday officially crossed the line.
When I think about Rushs last year or so on air, Im reminded of Marshall Phillipe Petain, one of the most intriguing figures of the twentieth century. Without Petain, the French might not have prevailed over the Germans at Verdun, and thus might have lost World War I. But for as much thanks as France owed Petain for his service in World War I, the full historical reckoning for Petain must acknowledge that Petain was a Nazi collaborator, the leader of Vichy France, and a totalitarian dictator. Petains history is complicated, and to tell the whole tale honestly requires acknowledging both the good and the bad.
So it is with Rush. For all he has done, and for all we should be thankful for, it is hard to deny that Donald Trump has brought conservatism to a critical moment. From this moment forward, it will either resemble the vision Rush has preached for thirty years, or it will not. It will either move forward as a recognizable force, or it will be destroyed with Trump in a historic landslide election.
Blackmailed.
Big Money sets prominent people up in compromised positions. It starts out slow then gotcha! Pictures, video. Maybe Foreign Money told Rush to avoid foreign topics like amnesty, trade, else the photos get published.
Could be Rush is blackmailed.
Okay...thanks. Much appreciate the explanation.
However civil our conversation has been, I have to disagree strongly with a couple of points you made. Trump is NOT for socialized medicine or big government. I think you have been listening to way too many of someone’s twisting of the truth. His healthcare program is outlined on his webpage.
Trump very much understands how the delegate system works. He also understands that it isn’t nice to run a dirty campaign. He knew what was going on in CO and WY, and therefore, didn’t waste his money there. Politicians love to spend, spend, spend - because it isn’t their money. Trump is very frugal which is also a conservative trait.
I hate to burst your bubble, but, Cruz is NOT going to win the nomination,
For someone who isn’t very bright, Trump has amassed a $10 billion dollar empire, unlike Cruz who has eaten at the government trough since he got out of law school. Book smarts do NOT equate intelligence - far from it. Common sensse is much more valuable, and Trump is very intelligent. You should listen to his testimonies in front of Congress. He knows what he is doing, and is outsmarting most - just as he knocked out all the other candidates - that’s pretty smart, in my book. Sounds like you might be an elitists - Cruz might be smarter in law, but, he lacks good sound judgment - such as when he called from Trump to fire his campaign manager over something that didn’t happen, and when he sided with the thugs in Chicago against Trump. Sorry, but, it’s quite possible that the infidelity by Cruz is true - however, it sure took him long enough to disavow it - and he had to have Fiorina be his mommy, he hid behind her skirts.
Once again, I hate to burst your bubble, but, Ted might be able to quote the Constitution, but, he doesn’t believe in it - only when it suits his purposes. He isn’t, by his own admission eligible to be POTUS. He also as I said earlier, sided with the thugs who took away Trump and his supporters free speech.
I think you should do some deeper research on your candidate - he is a fr4aud. I’m also well aware of Trump’s faults, he doesn’t hide them - unlike Cruz who has his records sealed. Regardless of what people say, they should always be judged by their actions, and Ted was dishonest and dirty with Dr. Carson in Iowa. If those things don’t bother you, then you, like many others, are hopeless, and will believe any thing a smarmy, fast-talking, lawyer politician tells you.
The SJW???? What is that?
I get where you’re coming from. I know it wasn’t just Cruz in any of those votes. Like I said, it would be forgivable if he were the only choice. But he isn’t and it lumps him in with the same-old-same-old crowd that has been abusing us for decades.
Cruz, rightly or wrongly, is not getting through to people like me, because trust has been damaged so many times by ‘true conservative’ politicians that any red flag pushes us away.
As far as Trump being a pig in a poke, I don’t believe that. I could be wrong, of course. It’s been known to happen. Just ask my wife!
But I do recommend reading The Art of the Deal and Time To Get Tough, if you’re looking to at least get an understanding of why someone might think he’s not a pig in a poke. That was the first thing I did when I was trying to figure out whether to take Trump seriously or not. It provided me great insight into how Trump’s mind works.

Social Justice Warriors.
I’m glad he came to his sense. He sounded like a raving liberal last fall.
I know. Last time I listened to him he was going on about how great Trump was. Pure liberal dreck.
Oh, and his campaign manager Corey is a close friend of Priebus and was working at a pro-amnesty, RINO thinktank when Trump hired him. Bu, but by all means, lets pretend the emperor is still wearing clothes!
Tune in now and you can hear what a guy sounds like when he’s got his head so far up Cruz’ backside that he can taste what he had for lunch.
No, thanks. Anybody who can be that duped by a liberal like Trump, and be his media lackey is not someone I want to listen to.
Not everyone is blessed with your dizzying intellect, Nick.
Rush has been more than fair to Trump.
I think he prefers Cruz but that’s his right.
The trumpers are not content with a commentator being fair.
They demand total Drudge/Coulter allegiance .
I thought this article was really bad.
Right on all counts.
Why in the world would you be Fox free.
Fox is so in the tank for Trump that I’ve started switching to CNN.
It’s not intellect. It’s just paying attention, and not falling for the media spin.
I agree with you. But neutral is not good enough for the trumpers.
Social Justice Warrior. Think Bernie supporters, campus freaks demanding safe spaces, ect.
And how much is Trump blackmailed? Including by the Saudi prince who helped bail him out twice?
