Yeah, but I think they get those things anyway. But if they got very little beyond prestige and maybe some influence they’d only stay in office a few years. There’d be no incentive to stay on for 20, etc. years. Just putting in term limits du jure wouldn’t prevent any of the things you mention either.

The federal government really needs to be dismantled back to its essential functions.

The Founding Fathers never intended nor imagined that there would be such a thing as career politicians. A little new blood and fresh perspectives is a healthy thing in a democracy. And they are not so beholden to their relationships with political dealmakers and/or the powers that be.

The longer politicians stick around the less inclined they are to dismantle the government they’ve helped to build up and fund. They are much too close to the existing order of big government to acknowledge its functional shortcomings.
