Defend Heidi Cruz

by MONA CHAREN March 26, 2016

Is Trump the political genius that some have been hinting? Who else, without staff or experience, could rocket to the top of the polls and remain in that perch month after month despite everything? Maybe it’s genius, or maybe its shamelessness. The latter can be mistaken for the former. This week’s new slog in the mud demonstrates one of Trump’s techniques to perfection — he flings filth at an opponent and then invites the docile press to conclude that “both sides” are engaged in unseemly brawling. (This is usually John Kasich’s moment to shake his head sadly and remind voters that, golly gee, he would never do such things.)

The “wife spat” began, as these things always do, with a Trump shiv. An independent PAC, Make America Awesome, published practically nude pictures — fully available in the public domain — of Melania Trump from a GQ photo shoot from the early 2000s, and invited viewers to consider whether someone who posed for such pictures would make an appropriate first lady. Trump then grabbed this small ad as excuse to hurl accusations at one of his opponents (wonder why he didn’t accuse Kasich?), tweeting that he believed Cruz to be responsible for the ad and threatening to “spill the beans” about Heidi Cruz if Cruz weren’t “careful.”

Cruz had nothing to do the the Make America Awesome ad. But before getting to the rest of the imbroglio, and at the risk of seeming utterly Victorian in this sorry time, it seems to me that Melania’s history as a nude model is not completely out of bounds as an election issue for voters. In an era when Paris Hilton becomes a household name for being featured in a sex tape,..... (READ ON)

I thought Mr. Trump was excellent in the debate when he said he would save 300 billion a year by making a deal with the evil pharma industry. I mean, that was a magical moment!

Did Melania “defend” Heidi when Mr. Trump posted their photos side by side? Just wondering.

She’s not involved herself in any of the controversies, to my knowledge. Probably wise.

There is some truth in what you say. Trump is a fantastic salesman. He has sold himself to a plurality of right of center voters. That is one helluva persuasive guy considering his Manhattan roots.

I don’t think she needs to defend Heidi. The other guy somehow thought Heidi had to defend a picture of Melania that Melania got paid to pose for. I am not quite getting it.

The truth is as all over the place, Heidi Cruz was never very conservative.

That doesn’t make her a bad person, it just makes her not a conservative.

Melania Trump did what she did, she was a model and models sometimes pose in various states of undress. None that I’ve seen rise to the level of pure pornography, though. If such a thing can be described as tasteful, I suppose those shots would be, no full frontal nudity. Is it a detriment to her? She’s a wife, mother and businesswoman now, I don’t know that she regrets it but she isn’t out there defending it, either.

“You may like to get more informed on the independence of super-PACs”

You mean the FAUX independence of super PACs, I think.

I wonder what “the beans” is (are?).

Did Trump mean Cruz’ mistresses, or something pertinent to Heidi?

And don’t forget that paragon of Catholic virtue, John Kennedy.

It wouldn't have made it any better if Kennedy divorced his wife and left her to raise the children solo and bragged in his memoirs about whom he slept with.

In any event, no Christian pretends he is without sin, and is not needful of forgiveness, certainly not Cruz. Second, perfection is a good thing to aspire to.

She doesn’t need to defend it. Neither does Heidi Cruz. That’s my only point.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to believe otherwise.

My opinion is that you are really working hard to discredit Trump, looking through tabloids for something scandalous. I believe you got that tidbit from National Review.

That outfit has basically screwed the pooch already so I see their lips moving but hear nothing they say.

Are you referring to MEgyn Kelly? Now those are disgusting images, needing no words to make them an attack the lady in question launched on herself.

Just as I believe that a man who values his children does not bring them on the campaign trail and use them as campaign props, I believe that people who are dredging up the kitchen sink to throw at Trump, who is clearly the frontrunner and has energized the base, enlarged the base and is the only candidate doing so in this or the past 4 election cycles, are not operating in the best interest of the American people and are more likely to support the Uniparty/Globalists.

Conservative is a buzzword. It means exactly what you want it to mean so you can use it to denigrate and marginalize.

Conservative:holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.

Trump seems to fit that very well. He is for free enterprise, 2nd amendment rights, returning Education to community control, eliminating Federal overreach, simplifying & reducing taxation, rebuilding our infrastructure, establishing a strong military and outfitting them with the tools they need to succeed not the ones that his cronies are building, caring for our veterans, returning medical insurance choices to the individual and freeing the marketplace to compete across state lines. He want to be sure Americans, not special interests, benefit from our treaties and our immigration process. There is a lot there to like.

Ted doesn’t know his wife if he thinks that. Heidi Cruz has a red flag in her past that is of concern:

He shouldn’t have run for president knowing how emotionally fragile she is.

My wife likes him. I don’t. But by any measure he is not my type of a conservative. From his former support of banning scary black rifles to his view that if he offers enough money he can use the state to take your property. I understand he has appeal to a wide swath of working folks and I understand why. But he just is not my cup of tea.

However, if he gets the most delegates he should be the nominee and I will vote for him against the Marxists but I will do it cursing you guys under my breath. :-)
