Las Vegas was founded by a man named Clark, that’s where Clark County got it’s name...It was an overnight stop for his train from Salt Lake City to LA.
Clark was the first Senator ever censured (for bribing the State of Montana electors to vote for him).
He was booted from the Senate.
Ran unopposed the next term.

I think the story goes like this.....
There is a natural aquifer underneath what is now downtown Las Vegas (Las Vegas....Spanish for “the meadows”).
There was once a ranch in this location. A ranch hand got into an argument with the owner of the ranch, and the ranch owner was murdered.
The man’s widow sold the ranch to Senator William Clark of Montana. Clark County is named after him.
