The most shocking development of the current election cycle is the abandonment of Scriptural principles by Christian voters for "pragmatic" reasons. The following verses from the Bible are meant as a gentle reminder of God's view:
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; (Psalm 33:12 )
For whom should Christians vote?
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14 )
What character should acceptable candidates display? The following verses shed light:
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. (Proverbs 8:13)
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Proverbs 16:18)
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. (Proverbs 11:28)
The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. (Psalm 10:4 )
For the love of money is the root of all evil: (1 Timothy 6:10)
A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. (Proverbs 28:20 )
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (1 Timothy 6:17)
How can character be discerned? Do any of these fruits apply to your candidate?
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7:20)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; (2 Peter 1:4-6)
WARNING- if your candidate deceives you with the promises of amazing, awesome constant worldly winning, you should prayerfully examine your faith...true faith can NOT be deceived by such a person!
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matthew 24:24)
One final admonition; if you are tempted to vote for a candidate that promises fantastic worldly rewards remember -
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)
I’m comfortable that voting for Cruz does not endanger my soul.
It’s sad. I suspected it. But now it appears to be true.
Forget the voters who have voted for you, Ted, go wheel and deal for yourself in some back room with the Bush’s running things. Ignore those who sent money or knocked on doors for you. You aren’t trying to win, anymore. You are just trying to land in a comfy spot for yourself.
Add this to the list of reasons I stopped supporting Cruz awhile back. The first two were the “Voter Violation” deceptive letter campaign, and holding hands with the bleeding-heart Kolob-believing, false prophet Joseph Smith-loving Mormon, Beck (the nail in the coffin). Beck’s a wreck.
With regard to the OP, it is impossible for me to justify voting for anyone in the primary from a scriptural viewpoint. I don’t go for deception and I don’t go for hopey-changey stuff from either the left of the right.
Thank you
I assume he maintains a wall since one must pass through his gate to enter his kingdom and all.
Well he is certainly not consistent in regard to upholding the constitution. Since Article II,I,5 are inconvenient to him, they no longer matter. What other parts of the constitution will he ignore when it is expedient to do?
Cruz will be gone Wed morning. I tried to like the guy..even would vote for him over hillary but he surrounds himself with loons and crazies. He is pure Bush and Goldman Sachs. And he attracts Paulistas.....
I liked your post. I am going to take disagree with this line, though. It should read that "a Dem win in 2016 is a reflection of what IS dooming our country to the dustheap of history." What we are seeing played out across the country is the direct result of the declining moral fabric of our society. Doesn't really matter who is put in office, we are doomed as long we, as a culture continue down the path we've set upon.
FWIW, I am by no means more morally superior than anyone else, so, everyone, don't take the above as a holier than though statement, please.
Interesting who finds this post pointed at them. It is the old... If the shoe fits, or ...If it sounds like a duck story.
None of us know who is saved and who isn’t but God. As for the candidates we know some claimed Jesus Christ as Savior and some claimed never asking God for anything.
We vote our faith or we vote our pocketbooks. This is Americas last chance to have a professing man of God in the Whitehouse. But our God is one of free will so you still have a vote. Choose you this day whom you will serve.
We’ve got books in the Bible dedicated to memorializing the construction of certain walls.
Another Christian for Trump.
That was my first thought.
After giving time for comments, coming back, this has encouraged some to respond in a very interesting ways. Proverbs is full of very good, wise words, as well. On the subject of who we support in leadership positions, I recommend a daily proverb chapter. If one seeks wisdom, God is the source. We know them by their fruit.
