The author apparently doesn’t know that JFK was in Texas because he was probably not going to be re-elected and he needed Texas. So, everyone didn’t believe things were wonderful.

You are so right. Many of his advisers told him not to go to Texas or for that matter any other place in the South. I will paraphrase his response to them, “When I go there and they can see me and get to know me they will love me.”

Yep. JFK hit Houston, Ft. Worth and then Dallas. Many people in TX (mostly a blue state at the time) liked him. I think LBJ felt that JFK’s possible loss in the upcoming election would ruin his chance at POTUS. Therefore, I still feel LBJ had a big role in the assassination. Some of his actions before leaving Dallas are clues.
