“If a black guy goes into a restaurant and orders a cup of coffee and a doughnut and the restaurant owner refuses to serve the guy because of his ‘religious convictions’, that’s against the law in every state.”

As far as I know, no religion calls for the shunning of people based on skin color.

Hi, The laws protecting blacks from discrimination in public accommodations like food and lodging has been allowed under the commerce clause of the Constitution. The rationale being that the white supremacist mentality in the south would inhibit their ability to travel and affect interstate commerce. I suppose if you asked Kasich he’d tell you that he believes that reasoning can be extended to a lesbian couple who need a cake for their wedding. I think it’s a ridiculous comparison for many reasons, and I believe a lot of blacks would find the comparison insulting and demeaning to their struggle. Elena
