IMHo, it's all smoke and mirrors. The Feds have either already cracked the phone themselves or Apple has already cracked it for them. This is all to just make sure the same thing doesn't happen with the iPhone that happened when the NYT spilled the beans about our listening in on equipment Bin Laden used.

IMHo, it's all smoke and mirrors.The FBI says they need to crack the phone so they can figure out what happened during the 18 minutes between the shooting and the couple being stopped and executed while wandering the area in a rented vehicle.
They know what happened during that time. They just don't want us to know. Ergo the charade over the phone.
