That sounds fair.

They wouldn't have to. As soon as Apple breaks open this phone, the feds, state agencies, and local agencies will line up at Apple's doorstep with a stack of iPhones and subpoenas saying "you've proven you can do it, now do it to all of these phones. And we'll be back with more."

WIthout know all the facts, I understand the Feds aren’t satisfied with that solution.

BINGO!

I really don't understand what is going on here - crimes have been committed, a court order has been issued to open the phone to determine if relevant information is available - not all phones or any other phone - just that phone - isn't that how criminal justice is achieved?

Seems to me that law enforcement needs this tool - only under court order - so, what's the big deal?

“Apple should break open this phone, but NOT give the key to the feds.”

Asking out of ignorance; what is the difference between jail-breaking an I-phone and unlocking the back door of an I-phone? Kids perform this jail break trick all the time....

Apple has widely advertised this version of iOS as being so secure, even they can’t crack their own encryption. If Apple demonstrates the ability to crack even ONE iPhone, they open themselves up to a class-action lawsuit from EVERY iPhone owner.

FWIW, here’s one of the best tech articles I’ve seen about this. Detail description about encryption, signing, and the difference between different version of Apple phones and OS’s.
