I seem to remember reading this last weekend that the US Marshals offer protection to Supreme Court Justices unless declined. What I read was that Justice Scalia had declined the detail.

My guess is that it was school vacation, and his “usual guys” were doing something with their kids.
And really...what is the worst that could happen.
I hope they got his refusal in writing. Some supervisor is on the hot seat this morning.
