So was Trump for WMD in Iraq Before He was Against It?
Flopping Aces ^ | 2/15/16 | Wordsworth

Trump has exaggerated his supposed opposition to OIF. PolitiFact:

Again, Trump said he was against the war from the very beginning.

"I'm the only one on this stage that said, 'Do not go into Iraq. Do not attack Iraq,' " Trump said. "Nobody else on this stage said that. And I said it loud and strong. And I was in the private sector. I wasn't a politician, fortunately. But I said it, and I said it loud and clear, 'You'll destabilize the Middle East.' "

Trump often repeats this line, and we've rated a similar Trump claim Mostly False, because he didn't appear to take any public position on the war until after the March 2003 invasion. In this more recent version of the statement, he also said he stated his opposition to the war "loud and clear." But the public record of his positions is thin.

Trump's public opposition to OIF only seems to have started in 2004. Before that, would a President Trump have "lied us into war"?

Of course, add me to ping list..

WTH happened?
This is what I was talking about.. between 2008-2012, the threads became links only :p

I stopped going to the threads because I don’t like being redirected (stubborn and security conscious; been on computers since 1980.. first modem was 300 baud)..

Anyway, have always loved your toons pookie :D

Colin Powell said he was mislead on WMD in Iraq, there weren't any WMD....Trump was right.

Intelligence sources world wide said he had them & you've seen the photos of truck convoys removing something. What do you think they were removing? Copies of The Art Of The Deal?

truck convoys removing something

If they had them we would have provided irrefutable proof, we didn't, there weren't any.

Will add you to the list today. Glad you like ‘em.

Due to FR’s copyright restrictions, I wouldn’t be able to post the editorial cartoons of Michael Ramirez & some other fine cartoonists directly &, of course, didn’t want to cause problems here. I didn’t feel it was worthwhile to post what was left plus the copyright restriction updates might remove even more of them. I was happy just to post them directly to the other sites.

Then, one day, I started seeing someone posting a cartoon thread here that linked to one of “my” sites. If was shortly after that that I began posting my “linked” threads here...it hadn’t even occurred to me that I could do that :(

If you want to avoid redirection, you could join either The Right Reasons or The (GOP) Briefing Room (I also post at a few other sites, but these are the 2 to which I link from here); there are many current & former FReepers at each site.

As you (should) know, the convoys removed whatever they removed prior to our going in...you either never read the articles or are purposely ignoring them now...

Trump screwed up bigtime here. W did the right thing in Iraq. We are where we are now because of Barack Hussein Obama. From hope and purple fingers to a worldwide disaster leading to Islamic invasion of Western Civilization. Of course, that is what Obama wanted.

“Lying” is an intentional falsehood. It’s not the same as being proven wrong. Bush did not admit to lying so far as I know, yet that is what Trump (& the Dems) accuse him of.

Trump seems to have problems with basic definitions. And I find that worrisome should he become president.

I don’t think Bush necessarily “lied” in his own mind. But he certainly was looking for any excuse to go after the guy who tried to kill his father.

To repeat, absence of evidence in not evidence of absence of Trump’s disagreeing with entering Iraq.

That's true, but Trump kind of has himself to blame for that given his September 2015 debate statement that he could find "25 stories" showing that he was against the invasion.

The other issue is that the quotes from his 2000 book, which are the only pre-invasion statements anyone has found, do suggest he would have favored it.

I think what likely happened here is the same thing that happened with the claim that he saw thousands of Arabs celebrating in New Jersey on TV. He has a memory of seeing Arabs celebrating on TV - which I remember too, but conflated those West Bank images with some stories about celebrations in New Jersey.

Here, I think he is misremembering his post-invasion statements in 2003-2004 as being made prior to the invasion.

He needs to be more careful before making hyperbolic statements like "I could find 25 articles", but I suppose if he measured his words more carefully, he wouldn't be Trump.

Actually, I think Iraq's attempt to assassinate a U.S. President alone should have induced Clinton to finish the job. I meam, think of that for a second. Saddam gets his butt kicked, signs a ceasefire, and then tries to assassinate our President.

And we essentially did nothing.

I do think he should use more modifiers when he says something like that. For example, “If I had enough time to research it, maybe I could come up with 25 articles.”

About Bush lies: “Stretched the truth...”

I kind of saw it that way too, at the time. I just figured that keeping Sadam in “a box” was a losing proposition. I was naive about that.

ISIS did use those WMD's that Saddam left behind. You remember the broken old ones that still had WMD's in them?
They used them at the Battle of al-Hasakah (June-August 2015)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_al-Hasakah_%28June%E2%80%93August_2015%29#The_battle

This video was the battle of al-Hasakah this could have been (I do not know) one of the WMD. The Kurdish fighters are the ones that reported the WMD's (I'm not sure I think these guys are Syrian forces)

Notice how the bomb went off it didn't spread out and it didn't hit its mark. If it was one of the WMD's it wasn't very effective)
Hasakah Still in Danger of Being Stormed Again by IS

Hell, remember the Obama “red Line” of chemical weapon use “by Assad”?
And then not long after that somebody doused an area with Chlorine?
That was the “free Syrian army” and ISIS (in pre-Isis form.
It was more than one occasion, and Obama promptly shut up about it after inspectors proved that it was the “rebels” who used chems.

I don’t doubt it at all.. as a matter of fact, I know that the current occupants were responsible for the ISIS getting their hands on the previously close guarded stuff.. (trying to remain simple with my terms)..

I am not intel and I am far from intelligent ;)
