I thought Cruz should have waited until he wasn’t being talked over to respond to Rubio in Spanish. Maybe ask him a question in Spanish to force a response from Rubio. That would have made Rubio look like an idiot - carrying on a conversation in Spanish with someone who he just said doesn’t speak Spanish. When those words left Rubio’s mouth I immediately said to my wife - how would he know if he speaks Spanish? I thought Rubio was a lawyer. As a lawyer you don’t ask questions you don’t already know the answers to, and as a candidate you don’t make an accusation that you have no idea as to the truth of it, especially one that can be disproved as quickly as it was. There was no upside for Rubio to make his comment. If Cruz can’t speak Spanish so what? Trump should have jumped in at that point and said something like “if we don’t build THE WALL we will ALL be speaking Spanish very soon”.
I was waiting for Jeb to jump in and say something completely non-sequitur in Spanish.
Unlike Rubio nad Bush, Ted Cruz never speaks Spanish in public or on the campaign trail. He doesn't pander to Hispanic voters by speakign Spanish. So Rubio probably assumed that he didn't know any.
A bad assumption, considering that Ted Cruz's father, like Rubio's, was born in Cuba and spoke Spanish there, until he left.
