Why hasn't any other GOP candidate come out in favor of building a border wall?

I'm delighted to hear that I'm mistaken about this, since I've liked what I've heard of Cruz's other positions. But it's important to note that neither Cruz nor the other candidates have been able to generate nearly the attention to this topic that Trump has. For decades now, polls have shown that Americans have wanted an end to illegal immigration, specifically by building a wall. The GOP establishment candidates have continually responded by instead coming up with amnesty proposals and easy paths to citizenship for the illegals already here, as if that is an acceptable alternative to real border control.
