Having read much of his work, I'd say Matt has good working knowledge of where such an event might leave us on the technological scale, should such an event occur.

I don't even want to think about what things would be like here in America, even after only a few days, without just in time delivery of the vital goods/services we ALL depend upon in our everyday lives.

Another good read, as well as Matt's work, is One Second After by William R. Forstchen.

It's just a test, but it shows what can happen. And an orbiting EMP weapon is only one out of dozen ways to take down the grid and bring on a catastrophe.
