Mr. Lopez is always worth the read. His money line for me: The authors acknowledge that these constituencies are angry, feel let down, view recent years as times of betrayal, aren't all that impressed by dogma right now, and are now open to someone, specifically Trump, though it might have been anyone who came along with new media savvy who doesn't even agree with their ideology at all but who represents a cathartic rebellion against the experts who've continually misled them.

Well, the problem with that view is that all these angry people did not go to Cruz.
When you find out the answer to that, you’ll have the answer to “Why Trump?” (Hint: not just anyone could mobilize people like this).

I think National Review hands were forced when Sarah Palin endorsed Trump. They had to quickly step in to stop any momentum Trump gets from Palin endorsement. It was a knee jerk reaction

The last paragraph, “I support Ted Cruz and have many anxieties about Donald Trump. I hope Cruz gets nominated, but if Trump wins, I’ll accept that like the rest of the right-wing writers, I got what I deserved. I will carry on and take away crucial life lessons. And here’s to hoping that Trump’s lasting legacy will be the rebirth of a new conservative intellectual class down the road.”
I have concerns about both our leading insurgent candidates but will support either in the general election. The article has some good points. Somehow the Democrats as idiotic as they are, don’t trash their candidates who have mass appeal. They know that Sanders is a commie wack job who can’t win, but you don’t see them writing an entire magazine dedicated to destroying him or making nasty comments about those who support him.

The first flaw of the intelligentsia, and perhaps its most fatal, was the tendency to become a closed discussion club. Two movements - the free-speech and traditional-marriage movements - gave me glimpses into the internal problems of the echo chamber.Yep, all they have done is talk, all talk no action. Hmmmmmm?
