So the way to avoid being disappointed by conservatives who don't follow through on their promises is to elect someone who isn't conservative. That way, you know ahead of time that he'll push a moderate to liberal agenda, and so won't be disappointed.

I fail to see how that is an improvement.

My logic for voting for Trump in the general election is at the least, he'll give ws better Court nominees than would the Dems. But then again, he did just start quoting Lawrence Tribe, so i guess you never know....

“...My logic for voting for Trump in the general election is at the least, he’ll give us better Court nominees than would the Dems...”

Based on what? His “NYC-Values”? There is no reason to think Trump would do anything but (at best, hopefully not worse than) appoint centrists to the courts, if he actually does the choosing. More likely, he will be handed a list with recommendations and after studying it like a chicken watching a card-game, will agree. But I’m certain he will assure us that his court picks will be, “Fabulous, really smart and qualified people. Just great people. And let me tell you, they are going to be super!”

Look, I’m not saying Trump will be a complete disaster, but I am saying that his 7th grade understanding of govt and the constitution (so far displayed, unless he’s sand-bagging us) should not lead anyone to expect that he knows “up” from “down” in selecting a SCOTUS appointee. And those jokers are appointed for *life*. It is one of my biggest fears with Trump as it could have seriously bad repercussions for the rest of my natural life and last for generations. Especially with Trump agreeing with some of the more liberal SCOTUS rulings. Should we expect more Kagens, Sotomayors, Ginsbergs and Souters? The next president will very likely appoint up to three justices. Should we roll the dice?

So yeah, Trump pokes the GOPe in the eye and that’s satisfying, but I’m looking beyond that.
