That's exactly what I thought.

Also, it would be easier for Trump, if he wins the nomination, to ask for and get either a declarative judgment or a Congressional resolution, or both, completely erasing the Cruz birther issue.

I see a Trump/Cruz ticket forming in the distance.

The hand was tipped in the money quote from last night's debate:
Trump rebutted with his characteristic mastery of insult-comic performance. "Here's the problem," Trump said. "We're running. He does great. I win. I choose him as my vice presidential candidate, and the Democrats sue and we can't take him along for the ride. I don't like that. OK?"
For all the handwringing here at FR, people haven't thought this through. Trump has in as many words told you that this whole birther flap was to clear the deck for a Trump/Cruz ticket and disarm the democrats of what would be their best shot at derailing the ticket. That's strategic thinking at it's finest, as well as grand political theater.

Trump/Cruz 2016 is pretty much a done deal.
