I'm surprised he didn't say what to me is the obvious: we are Rome, it is 49 BC, and Trump is about to cross the Rubicon.

Cruz is Cato the Younger--and it is no accident that our Founding Fathers thought the best play ever was Cato, a Tragedy. Trump will in all likelihood win, and then be assassinated, either in fact or for all practical purposes. We will then keep the trappings of small-r republican government as Rome did, but we will become an executive dictatorship. For all practical purposes this has been the case since 2009, and once that corner was turned, turning it back is well nigh impossible.

.
Just how to you expect Trump to win with twice as many votes against him as are for him?

Trump is not going to win. Hillary is probably going to win. The split here between Cruz and Trump supporters will seal it.
There are more liberals in this country now than conservatives.
If we don’t unite, and even if we do we may have no chance, but without it we are lost.
