Mount Etna, the volcano on the Italian island of Sicily, has erupted in spectacular fashion for the first time in two years.
Etna sent a plume of fire and ash into the sky, several kilometres high.

It goes off several times a year. Spectacular to see but generally - hopefully! - harmless. The mountain will be closed for skiing this weekend!
Scary Gorgeous!!!
Big carbon footprint!
That is awesome.
Am I wrong to giggle at the idea that each belch of that mountain nullifies the practicality of at least a dozen Toyota Priuses?
Ash alert!
A dozen? Try all of them.
And with all that soot thrown up in the atmosphere, temperatures globally should drop.
I love eruption-related lightning! Thanks Berlin_Freeper.

While mentioning Momotombo, this link points out that several volcanoes are acting up, including others in Central America on the edge of the Caribbean Plate. Look for possible activity in Martinique, St. Vincents and other islands in that chain, the other end of the Caribbean Plat. Good photos including Etna.
Judging from the map at this site, there is a lot of activity on the ring of fire. Also, we had a recent full moon which may encourage eruptions.
